There's no doubt about it -  snowboarding is coming back in a big way. Since becoming an Olympic sport just eleven years ago, more people than ever before are taking to the slopes to emulate their sporting heroes, such as Finnish superstar Peetu Piiroinen (2009 World Snowboard Champion and 2007 Big Air World Cup champion).

So, what exactly is snowboarding? Snowboarding involves a board, which your feet are strapped to, a hill and lots of snow. Most commonly, snowboarders will freeride, or board down any kind of terrain and perfom tricks, jumps and turns as the boarder wants. You could also freestyle, which involves jumping over boxes & rails, and performing jumps. You could freecarve on tightly packed snow, or dry slope on manmade snowboarding courses.

With demand for bindings and Free Ride helmets higher than ever, alpine resorts around the world are fighting tooth and nail to attract the next generation of boarders. There has been an explosion of  locations offering snowboarding and, perhaps for the first time, there is a real possibility that it could overtake skiing as the number 1 winter sport.
